Accellion, Microsoft, Egnyte, Syncplicity by Axway, IBM, BlackBerry and VMware were named leaders in the market for hybrid enterprise file sync and sharing platform market, according to the latest Forrester Wave market report.
Citrix and Acronis were named strong performers, while Varonis was listed as a contender.
Forrester defines hybrid EFSS vendors as those that offering both cloud and on-premises deployment options.
"Enterprises still hold large volumes of documents on-premises in file shares, storage devices, and ECM [enterprise content management] systems….Hybrid EFSS providers give EA [enterprise architecture] pros the flexibility to deliver a great file-sharing experience without requiring migration efforts," the report [reg. req.] related.
"Enterprises can leave sensitive information on-premises or within private cloud instances in their preferred region yet still get the benefit of simple file collaboration across mobile devices, even with external parties," the report added.
Forrester singled out WatchDox, which BlackBerry acquired last year, as scoring high on security. "WatchDox by BlackBerry shows particular strength in the security criteria for EFSS, with integrated rights management, watermarking for confidential items, and mobile protection," the reported noted.
Responding to the ranking of BlackBerry as an EFSS leader, Billy Ho, executive vice president of enterprise product and value added solutions at BlackBerry, commented: "The Forrester EFSS Wave 2016 validates that enterprises can rely on BlackBerry when securely handling all their sensitive documents internally and externally."
In its latest EFSS Magic Quadrant report, which looks at the EFSS market as a whole, Gartner put Accellion, Box, Citrix and Syncplicity by Axway in the leaders quadrant, with Egnyte and WatchDox in the visionaries' quadrant, Microsoft, Google and Dropbox in the challengers' quadrant and Acronis, AirWatch by VMware, Ctera Networks, Huddle, Intralinks, Thru and Varonis in the niche players' quadrant.
