Syncplicity by Axway hands key control option to customers

EMC's Syncplicity by Axway, which competes with the likes of Box, Dropbox and other cloud file sharing services, on Wednesday rolled out the ability for customers to manage their keys to control rights managed content.

Syncplicity by Axway last year rolled out native rights management and security to cover content that is sent to external people. The content can be watermarked, set to expire and be geofenced.

Managed keys is a next step to that. Syncplicity by Axway will enable rights management keys to be stored in the cloud or in customer data centers away from the company's servers, according to a blog post.

Jeff Schultz, head of marketing for Syncplicity by Axway, said that managed keys are becoming increasingly important for customers who may have to adhere to data storage requirements of various countries.

Managed key options give customers more granular control. "Key management is a hot topic in file sync and share right now," said Schultz. "Companies are wrestling with enforcing privacy and security. With us keys are truly managed by customers and we can't touch them."
